Accessibility Statement

Last updated: March 2026

Missing From Eritrea is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including people with disabilities. We continually work to improve the experience for everyone and apply relevant accessibility standards.

Our Commitment

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities, including visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive impairments.

Accessibility Features

Our platform includes the following accessibility features: full keyboard navigation support across all pages and interactive elements; screen reader compatibility with ARIA labels and semantic HTML structure; skip navigation links to bypass repetitive content; responsive design that adapts to all screen sizes and supports text resizing up to 200%; right-to-left (RTL) layout support for Arabic content; a Geez script keyboard for Tigrinya input; sufficient color contrast ratios throughout the interface; and meaningful alt text for all informational images.

Supported Languages

Our platform is available in three languages: English, Arabic (العربية), and Tigrinya (ትግርኛ). Arabic content is served in a right-to-left layout. We have designed each language experience to be equally accessible and functional.

Known Limitations

Despite our efforts, some areas of the site may not yet be fully accessible. The interactive map on the registry page may be difficult to navigate with a keyboard or screen reader alone. Some user-submitted images may lack descriptive alt text. Older PDF documents may not be fully accessible. We are actively working to address these limitations and welcome feedback on any barriers you encounter.

Reporting Accessibility Issues

If you encounter any accessibility barriers while using our platform, please let us know. We take accessibility feedback seriously and aim to respond within 5 business days. You can reach us by email at accessibility@missingfromeritrea.org. Please include a description of the issue, the page URL where you encountered it, and the assistive technology you were using, if applicable.
